About Guitopia

The Mission

Guitarists… you’ve found your Utopia!  Guitopia was developed to bring you the ultimate guitar education experience.  Our goal is to help you become a proficient, competent, confident, satisfied, well-rounded guitarist and musician by providing experience-driven knowledge from actual industry professionals.  Guitar teachers are a dime a dozen, but touring, recording, Grammy-nominated professionals is what you’ll find at Guitopia.

You will learn quickly here because our efficient and effective teaching methods are aimed at getting you to play music from day one.  Learn a new chord?  Use it in a musical situation.  Learn a new technique?  Use it in a musical situation.  Learn a new scale?  You get the idea…  To become a musician, it’s beyond learning the “tools”.  You have to know how to use them; that’s what we focus on at Guitopia.

We’ll be guiding you every step of the way and show you how to implement everything you learn, musically, immediately.  THAT is the difference between us and everyone else.  While other places will give you a fish, we teach you how to fish!

You can expect constant growth here at Guitopia.  We’re always revising our resources to further define the best possible learning path.  We’re constantly monitoring the web’s newest technologies and seeing how we can implement them here to keep your learning experience as fun, exciting, effective and efficient as possible.  We are also eager to hear from our Members so please contact us with your site and content suggestions!

Now go learn and play some music!

The Story

Guitopia was founded by Dave Weiner.  Here are some quick stats on Dave:

  • 28-years playing experience
  • 22 years teaching experience
  • 16 years touring experience
  • Steve Vai’s touring guitarist of choice for the last 16 years leading to numerous world tours
  • Attended and graduated from Musician’s Institute:  Guitar Institute of Technology.  Later returned there as an instructor for many years
  • 4-time Grammy nominee for both guitar playing and engineering for his work on Steve Vai’s recordings
  • 3 records released
  • Creator and host of Riff of the Week® since 2005.  ROTW is the internet’s longest running guitar education video series
  • Hosts clinics and master classes around the world
  • Pioneered online guitar lessons via Skype and iChat in the early 00’s

The Past – Riff of the Week:

All that experience is what has culminated into Guitopia, but it started a decade ago.  Dave started producing guitar-education videos in 2005 with his hit series “Riff of the Week®”.  As season after season passed, production naturally increased: the move from SD to HD, added cameras, pro lighting, green screens and microphones lead to more post-production: editing multiple angles and mixing and mastering audio.  All at the aim of producing the highest quality content possible.  But that was just the beginning.

The Present – Guitopia:

Shortly after ROTW became a full-fledged business, it started to quickly grow.  A bigger vision became apparent immediately.  That vision would entail a better, broader name; one that wasn’t quite as narrow and misleading (we teach so much more than a riff per week!).  It would also entail more features to immerse the learning guitarist, keep them interested and having fun (chatroom, forum and giveaways, to name a few).  And this vision would be presented via a brand new, rebuilt from the ground up, website to enhance the Member experience and provide the best learning atmosphere possible.

The Future:

Rest assured, we won’t rest on our laurels.  Guitopia will continue to evolve to provide the best possible guitar education for our Members.   The near future holds an exciting, soup-to-nuts guitar course, tentatively named “The Guitar Path”.  It will be the most all-encompassing guitar course ever created.  From day one of owning a guitar, we’re going to guide you through the learning process, making sure you know how to make music with everything you’re learning along the way.  We’ll show you step-by-step, what to learn and where to go next.  If you’re an absolute beginner or a seasoned veteran,  you’re going to learn more, faster, than you ever thought possible, and be a real musician, not just a guitarist.
